COVID-19 CRISIS
Early
in
2020,
reports
appeared
in
the
British
media
of
a
cluster
of
viral
pneumonia
cases
in
Wuhan,
China.
On
30
January,
the
World
Health
Organisation
declared
the
outbreak
to
be
a
Public
Health
Emergency
of
International
Concern,
and
on
11
March
recognised
the
spread
of
COVID-19
as
a
pandemic.
By
18
March
all
countries
within
Europe,
by
then
considered
to
be
the
active
centre
of
the
pandemic,
had confirmed cases and more than 250 million people were in lockdown.
In
the
UK,
schools,
restaurants,
pubs,
indoor
entertainment
venues
and
leisure
centres
were
shut
on
20
March.
Three
days
later
the
government announced a lockdown of the whole population.
COVID-19
has
affected
everyone
-
sometimes
in
small
ways,
sometimes
in
tragic.
We
have
quickly
come
to
learn
the
importance
of
social
distancing, self isolating and shielding and we have all done our best to 'Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives'.
Wonersh is, of course, no exception to the lockdown regime, and the following slides give a flavour of the impact of that on our Village.
